CSI: American Carnage (Wednesday, April 22, 2020)
WASHINGTON — Donald is meeting with Mark in the conference room off the Oval. Donald says, What the hell? Mark, what the hell? Mark says, They claim they don’t want to die. Donald says, We’ve been through this before. They said they’d die for their country and they begged us, as you know, they begged us not to shut down the country to save them. Please, please, they begged, keep it open, keep us in business. But we went ahead, we went ahead against the advice of everybody in the room. The doctors, which everybody said, the doctors. We alone said, No. We’re gonna close the country, and they all said, no, no, we’d rather die. Don’t close it. But we did, and nobody agreed with us, but we closed it down, and now with the Invisible Enemy in retreat, because we took the early action, early against the Chinese, early against Portugal and the rest, it’s time to reopen, and they’re saying, No, no, no. Please keep it closed. What the hell? Mark, beginning to get emotional, says, Well, they say they don’t want to die. They say they want to live, you know. There are these polls, you know. They say your seniors love you, they love you, and they want to beat the virus before and they want you. They say the economy can come after that. That’s not what I say; it’s what the polls say they’re saying out there. Mark sniffles, as a tear appears in the corner of his eye. Donald says, Look we got it concentrated pretty much in New York. You take out New York and what do you have? Mark says, New York’s in the country, you know. Donald says, Excuse me, excuse me. Let me finish. You take out New York and what do we have? You got less than 30,000 dead, really good numbers, less than 30,000 dead, throw in Hudson County, Nassau, a few others near the city, you’re down in the teens. That’s what they call a statistical blip, a statistical blip, a blip, Marky Mark. You got the cases down to less than half a mill. Half a mill! That’s like barely noticeable. Mark says, The seniors, you know, a lot of them are not right in the head, they say the virus affects the head. More tears accumulate in his eye. Mark blinks several times. Donald says, That’s probably true, because the seniors, they love me. Mark says, You need to communicate with them directly. What’s the alternative? Letting Yamiche get your message out? Donald says, she is totally a liar, a liar. And she will just make it up to make us look like we don’t know what we’re doing. A liar and a distorterer. Mark says, Direct, that’s what you’re strength is. Your humanity front and center. Direct. Donald takes out his phone. Mark says, Go ahead. You got to get the word out. Your people need you, they need to feel close. They need the embrace. Tears are now pouring down Mark’s face and onto his shirt collar. Donald says, Yeah, because States are safely coming back. Our Country is starting to OPEN FOR BUSINESS again. Special care is, and always will be, given to our beloved seniors (except me!).
