CSI: American Carnage (Thursday, March 7, 2019)

CALEXICO, Calif. — Boris says, Here is place for the hamburgers. We must eat! He leads Little Timmy and other members of the strike force into a greasy spoon where they sit and order something on the menu called hamberders. The waitress says, You’ll love em, hon, they’re made with the president’s special sauce. The teevee jutting from the wall above the table is very loud. Kirstjen is being questioned by a congressional committee. The committee chairman asks her, Are we putting children in cages? She says, Sir those are not cages. The chairman says, What are they? Kirsjen says, They are areas of the border facility that are carved out for the safety and protection of those who remain there while they are being processed. A member of the committee asks, Do the cages differ from the cages you put your dogs in when you let them stay outside? Kirstjen firmly says, Yes. The congresswoman asks, In what sense? Kirstjen says, It’s larger. The waitress comes over with the group’s order of hamberders. She says, You’ll love em. The professor says, Has this border crisis had an effect on your business? The waitress looks at him and says, Hon, these Trump people don’t tip too good, I can tell ya that. Plus, we get folks in here with their kids and then the border police come in and take the kids and disappear em and they take the moms and dads and throw em in the slam and they all make a lot of noise. What a ruckus. The professor says, So they are coming in and just pulling families apart? The waitress says, Yup.  On the teevee, Kirstjen says, We don’t have a policy of family separation. We enforce the law. The point is to increase prosecutions for those breaking the law. This is not a manufactured crisis. This is truly an emergency. Sarah says, She does not know the number of children separated. She does not know the number of children in cages or where the cages are. She does not know they number of children who have died. She does not know how many children are ill or where they are or in what condition. This isn’t an accident. This is the point. The waitress comes over with a bottle of ketchup. She says, Special sauce for y’all. The door of the greasy spoon bangs open and a squad of uniformed men enters and looks around. The customers see the men, who are wearing heavy boots and carry weapons, and fall silent. Everyone intensely studies their food. The men walk slowly past the tables and stop in front of the waitress, who turns away and heads behind the counter. The leader looks down at Boris, the Professor, and the rest of the strike force. He says, Your papers!

It’s not a policy; it’s the law,” she said.
