CSI: American Carnage (Saturday, March 2, 2019)

NEW YORK — The Times guy is having a Brewdog at O’Brien’s on 48th when the Post guy comes in and takes the stool next to him. The Post guy says, It’s not the same. With Langan’s closed, it’s just not the same. I mean this place is okay. You can get a decent beer, but it’s not the same. The Times guy says, it hasn’t been the same since Gough’s closed. Everything’s closing up and melting away. Remember the peep show? The Post guy says, The one where the cop shop is? Yeah. That was back in the Nixon days. Nixon! A straight-shooting crook. The Times guy says, Yeah. You can say what you want about Nixon, but at the end of the day, he followed the script. So did the Rs. The tapes emerged. The Rs led by Hugh Scott and Goldwater go to Nixon and say he’s got to go. And what did Nixon do? The Post guy says, He vacated. Never forget it. Remember his speech to the staff right before he left? The Times guy says, Sure, I do. The staff is all there and Nixon comes in with that locked in grin that turns grimmer and grimmer as he speaks. Yeah, I remember. He called the White House the best house. He says, It is the best house, because it has something far more important than numbers of people who serve, far more important than numbers of rooms or how big it is, far more important than numbers of magnificent pieces of art. This house has a great heart, and that heart comes from those who serve. Can you imagine? He passed that heart down for this guy. The Post guy says, Donald? Donald doesn’t think it’s the best house. Bedminster is better. Remember, he told his golf buddies that the White House is a real dump. He said you could tolerate Camp David for about 30 minutes. Nixon loved it. He loved bringing in all the foreign potentates. The Times guy chuckles. He says, Donald sure wouldn’t bring a decent dictator to Camp David. Mar all the way. Remember at the end of Nixon’s speech, the part everybody remembers? The Post guy says, You mean the hate part? Sure I do. He says, So I say to you on this occasion, as we leave, we leave proud of the people who have stood by us and worked for us and served this country. We want you to be proud of what you have done. We want you to continue to serve in government, if that is your wish. Always give your best, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you don’t win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself. The Times guy shakes his head. He says, Hey, that reminds me! You see Donald’s tweets on Cohen? The Times guy says, What did they say? The Post guy pulls out his phone. The Times guy reads aloud: Oh’ I see! Now that the 2 year Russian Collusion case has fallen apart, there was no Collusion except bye Crooked Hillary and the Democrats, they say, ‘gee, I have an idea, let’s look at Trump’s finances and every deal he has ever done. Let’s follow discredited Michael Cohen and the fraudulent and dishonest statements he made on Wednesday. No way, it’s time to stop this corrupt and illegally brought Witch Hunt. Time to start looking at the other side where real crimes were committed. Michael Cohen’s book manuscript shows that he committed perjury on a scale not seen before. He must have forgotten about his book when he testified. What does Hillary Clinton’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, say about this one. Is he being paid by Crooked Hillary. Using her lawyer? The Times guy sighs. He says, Cohen says that based on his experience with Donald, if he loses in 2020, there will never be a peaceful transition of power. The Post guy says, That’s hyperbole. Isn’t it? The Times guy says, This is way beyond Nixon.
