CSI: American Carnage (Saturday, December 14, 2019)

NEW YORK – What do you hear, Jim? John asks his reporter in the field. The president’s being impeached, he’s tweeting at a record rate, there have been reports of screams and loud noises coming from the West Wing, he wants to register Jews as a distinct nationality, his Education Secretary has been cited for contempt of court, his wife has been labeled a hypocrite – yet for all this, and that’s just a small sample from recent days, the president maintains he is, as he says, doing great, and he asks, Jim, he wonders how do you get Impeached when you have done NOTHING wrong (a perfect call), have created the best economy in the history of our Country, rebuilt our Military, fixed the V.A. (Choice!), cut Taxes & Regs, protected your 2nd A, created Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, and soooo much more? Crazy! It’s not fair. Jim says, Well, John, that is quite a litany of achievements and successes. But I wonder if the president can be trusted to accurately describe his situation. John says, Jim, this is a president who works with his gut. If his gut comes knocking he just opens the door. It gets pretty messy, but that’s the way this president operates. Jim says, That’s true, John, no question. He’s a president who values the gut and listens carefully to it. I think it’s starting to sink in that he’s about to be impeached. Impeachment is coming. He was asked about these issues earlier today. He was asked about the prospect of a Senate trial that comes after he’s impeached in the House. There’s been a debate going on back and forth between the White House and Republicans up on Capitol Hill about whether or not a Senate trial is a good idea. I will tell you, I talked to a source familiar with discussions going on inside the White House, who said the president is starting to listen. John says, Hold it right there, Jim. Didn’t the president say yesterday that he would do whatever he wants with the Senate trial? He wants a long trial, maybe bring in some special guests, gussy up the well of the Senate, maybe get some writers to work the script. This is his gut, Jim. His gut is telling him he needs a good producer. Does he have confidence in Mitch McConnell. So far, John, yes. Other senators are complaining about what their roles would be in a drawn out trial. One Republican said to me, I can’t dance but I’m afraid Rudy can sing. John says, Hmm, Jim that doesn’t sound good. Jim says, I talked to a Trump adviser earlier this evening who said, this is a president who will come out of this impeachment process, and I quote, unhinged. That this will be a very different President Trump. If you feel like he’s bothered by these grievances now, wait until he’s impeached in the House and acquitted in the Senate. This adviser says get ready for a brand new even more aggrieved President Trump heading into the 2020 cycle. John says, Thank you, Jim. Unhinged is the word in Washington. Back in two minutes with the the Salsa Girls behind the Boris Johnson stunner in the UK and Fareed will tell us why the British elections amidst the universal dislike of Jeremy Corbyn and the on-going Brexit mess is an ominous sign for Elizabeth Warren’s prospects in the Iowa corn country caucuses. – Saturday, December 14, 2019
