CSI: American Carnage (Friday, October 25, 2019)

NEW YORK – We ain’t got any of this BrewDog, the barkeep tells the Post guy. You want a Brooklyn Lager? That I can do. The Post guy, disappointed, says, Okay, and sees the Times guy pushing in from Second Avenue. He waves. The Times guy sees him and comes over. He says, Subway Inn. Haven’t been here in awhile. The Post guy says, No BrewDog. The Times guy says, Barkeep! A Brooklyn Lager, if you please. The bar tender says, You got it and brings a mug over. The Post guy says, And so it begins. The Times guy says, Yeah. This is what it’s all about. The Post guy says, Even during Nixon the agency and the FBI were not pitted directly against each other in a criminal investigation. The Times guy says, No. You didn’t have the justice department looking to charge CIA. But don’t forget, Nixon tried to use the agency to shut down the FBI. The Post guy says, Yeah. Haldeman told him that Pat Grey couldn’t control the Watergate investigation, or, as Nixon liked to call it, the break-in thing. So Haldeman says the way to handle it is to have Vernon Walters, Dick Helms’ number two at CIA, give Pat Grey at FBI a call and say we want you to stay the hell out of this business here. We don’t want you to go any further on it. The Times guy says, Okay. I remember that. Nixon banked on the FBI agents working the case to figure it was a CIA operation. Nixon was worried about the money found on the burglars. Yeah. It could be traced back to Stans and CREEP. Nixon says, you know, you open that scab and there’s a hell of a lot of things. You rip protection money off the wound and the bugs just crawl out. You got the Cubans. Hunt. Remember Nixon wants to know if Liddy is involved. He says Liddy’s a little nuts. Not well screwed on. And he tells Haldeman to play it tough. But, hey, that’s a long way from launching a criminal investigation. The Post guy says, Yeah. But look, Duce had the chaos of World War One to get a leg up. He took control of the security forces in the twenties. Same in Germany. Donald seems to be pitting the security forces against each other, you know, weaken them, let them take each other down. They sit at the bar. The Times guy says, Okay. But, you know, free press and all of that. And the kids, the kids aren’t afraid of unions and socialists. Right? So you’ve got us. And you’ve got the kids. And a union or two. And Bernie. It can’t happen here. They sit some more. The Post guy says, Barkeep! A couple of shots and bring the bottle. – Friday, October 25, 2019
