CSI: American Carnage (Saturday, September 7, 2019)
NEW YORK – The Times guy pushes into the Café Carlyle, sees the Post guy at his usual corner table, and heads over. Hey, he says, sorry I’m late. The Post guy says, No problem. I was just sitting her thinking about the old days, Bobby, all that stuff. The Times guy says, Tony Danza’s coming back soon. He’s so great. Maybe not Bobby, but great in his own way. What’s going on? The Post guy says, You see Politico? Natasha’s got a hell of a scoop. Seems the Air National Guard is making routine stops outside of Trump Turnberry in Scotland to refuel and stay and then head off to Kuwait. On the way back, they stop at Turnberry again, refuel, stay, and fly on. The whole thing has propped up the Failing Turnberry and the failing airport, which Failing Turnberry depends on. The Times guy says, There’s your grift of the week, for sure. The Post guy says, Oh yeah. It’s a gift that’s gonna keep on giving. Could be the beginning of the end. The Times guy laughs. Ha ha ha. He says, Beginning of the end? There is no end. Are you kidding? The Post guy, says, No, actually I’m not. Look at it this way, what marked the beginning of the end for McCarthy? The Times guy says, the hearings, of course. The Post guy says, Right. He went after the Army Signal Corps and the generals got pissed. They accused McCarthy and his boy Roy Cohn of trying to finagle special treatment for the Schine kid. The point is, the military pushes back. Donald can’t throw the Pentagon under the bus. The Times guy says, Really? The Times guy finishes a quick read of Natasha’s scoop on his cell. He says, Hmmm. They are refusing to respond to Jerry. They are refusing to respond to Elijah. The stonewall continues. It would seem the Pentagon is all in. The Post guy says, We’ll see how long that lasts. The Times guy says, No matter how big the grift, there’s a bigger grift on the horizon, and Donald will do what he has to do to confuse and distract. By the way, did you see he’s got the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to say that Alabama was under grave threat from Dorian. The Post guy says, It’s pathological. The Times guy says, Yeah. But consider how he’s got these agencies to back him up. It’s like he’s goading us, flaunting it all. Next thing you know he’s gonna start calling out individual reporters, banning them, and who knows what else. Arrests. Canceled elections. Gulags. The Post guy says, Hey hey hey, buddy, this is the Café Carlyle, the home of the great Bobby Short, Tony’s around the corner this month, and they make a great, great martini. – Saturday, September 7, 2019
